Understanding Your Speed Test Results
Download Speed
Download speed measures how fast data travels from the internet to your device. This affects streaming, downloading files, and loading web pages.
- 0-5 Mbps: Basic browsing and email
- 5-25 Mbps: HD streaming on one device
- 25-100 Mbps: Multiple HD streams, online gaming
- 100+ Mbps: 4K streaming, large downloads, multiple users
Upload Speed
Upload speed measures how fast data travels from your device to the internet. Important for video calls, uploading files, and live streaming.
- 0-3 Mbps: Basic email and social media
- 3-10 Mbps: Video calls, file sharing
- 10-25 Mbps: HD video calls, content creation
- 25+ Mbps: 4K streaming, large file uploads
Ping (Latency)
Ping measures the reaction time of your connection - how fast you get a response after sending a request. Lower is better.
- <20ms: Excellent - Perfect for gaming
- 20-50ms: Good - Suitable for most activities
- 50-100ms: Fair - Noticeable in gaming
- >100ms: Poor - Lag in real-time activities
Jitter
Jitter measures the variation in ping over time. Lower jitter means more stable connection. Important for video calls and gaming.
- <10ms: Excellent - Very stable
- 10-30ms: Good - Acceptable for most uses
- 30-50ms: Fair - May affect quality
- >50ms: Poor - Unstable connection
Tips for Accurate Testing
- Close other applications and browser tabs
- Stop any downloads or uploads in progress
- Test from a wired connection when possible
- Run multiple tests at different times of day
- Make sure no one else is using your network heavily
- Restart your router if experiencing issues
